Approach
Since I am interested in the connection between technologies and people, I wanted to develop a visual essay related to this topic. Initially, I found a short film(called “Endings” by Emmanuelle Pickett) from the website, Nowness. I loved this film from the first line, “You’re going to die.” As a result, I edited voices from the film in a minute length, and visualized my concept.
Process
Storyboard
First, I edited voices from the film in a minute length, and visualized my concept. Storyboarding helped to map out overall steps and decide effective concept design, ways to tell stories, and transitions.
Design
Once the storyboard was fully developed, I designed neutral characters that everyone could relate to themselves or other people. And then, I created a city that consisted of people inside phones. The purpose of this way was to show people obsessed with their phones and digital lives.
Animation
After creating style frames, I started to animate them. I used After Effects for the city, camera, and people’s animation. I also used Photoshop for some of the people’s movements, and Cinema 4D for 3d basement in the phone.

Combining & Color and Texture
And then, I combined all of them in After effects and adjusted color and textures to finalize the work.

Final
I really enjoyed this project because I loved all the process of visualizing and animating the interesting topic. Throughout this project, I developed my visualization ability using various programs such as AE, Photoshop, and 3D programs. I tried to be harmonious with the tools for visualizing the subject. It’s always fun to explore and learn new methods.
