Inspiration

My favorite thing to do is to look at the sky every day. It shows me different art scenes each time with special concepts on an Infinite canvas. It makes me feel alive and delighted. I would like to design works that make people feel alive like the sky does to me. This is a metaphor for my design philosophy using the sky.

Approach

How can I animate the way I get inspired by the sky? I love the sky because not only it spreads beautiful colors in the world but also it makes positive influence on many people. I used the sky’s attributes which remind me what kind of designer I want to be.

Process

I pitched the idea and concepts to my class and develop the design concept. This process helped me to build the project considering audience.

Color

I used white for the main ball color and made it colored by others which I got from the sky. I picked the colors from sky pictures I’ve taken from sunrise to night and different weathers.

Rough Animation

I like to animate in After Effects because it’s efficient for me. But I decided to add cel animation for the project because this design concept is more get along with hand-drawn animation.

Final Design & Animation

I used cel animation for fluid components and used after effects for other transform animations and overall transitions.

“As someone who also loves to gaze up at the sky throughout the day, this short animation visually articulates a spectrum of feelings that I can relate to. The music, graphics, and color palette carry the viewer along on a quirky journey, and all of it works together beautifully to represent the many subtleties of the sky.” -Sarah Kim, 2018 Adobe Awards Team Picks
